About Us

Who we are

TREE was organized in 2017 and attained non-profit status in 2021 to provide critical interventions and rehabilitation to wildlife throughout the greater Tidewater region. In addition to providing lifesaving care to migratory and native avian species, the organization seeks to educate the public about living alongside nature in a way that benefits people and the wildlife.

In 2023, TREE provided care for 1,190 patients across 110 species. Recently, it became apparent that the unique needs and challenges faced by avian species in our region required a more focused approach. While there are many remarkable organizations in the area dedicated to the welfare of mammals and reptiles, there were very few in the region that specialize in avian rehabilitation, specifically seabirds. In 2024 TREE realigned their mission to better support the magnificent birds and waterfowl of the greater Tidewater region

TREE works with dozens of other non-profit and government organizations across VA and NC to ensure all migratory birds have a chance at survival in their natural habitats.
